Bryan “Alf” Grzegorczyk

Bryan “Alf” Grzegorczyk addresses the crowd that turned out to celebrate the reopening of the popular local watering hole. The “A” sign once was part of the Las Vegas Club on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, NV.

Alf’s Pub and Package kicked off their re-grand opening last week. The pub is owned by Bryan “Alf” Grzegorczyk, and he closed Alf's for a little less than two weeks for a major expansion and remodel. The celebrate the reopening, live music was provided by Year of The Pig. The celebration continued the next day with more live music from The Toons, Boogie Machine and Karaoke with Autumn. Food was available for purchase from Silva’s Traveling Grill food truck.

Alf purchased the establishment in 2007, one year before he retired from the Air Force. The building was originally a gas station in the 1950’s. When he took it over it was just a little bar named Jake’s. Over the last 12 years he has been improving it a little bit at a time. The newest renovation includes 1200 additional square feet of sitting area named “The West Wing”. The bar was completely torn out to replace and upgrade the plumbing, the beer cooler, and the bar. The entire bar area and the new addition is decked out with beetle pine wood. A neon “A” from the famous Las Vegas Club is the centerpiece of the far west wall. Alf’s friend Derek Stevens, the owner of several Las Vegas casinos including the recently demolished Las Vegas Club, gifted Alf with the “A” that helped to light up Freemont Street for 87 years.

Alf is the founder of “Thankful Thursday”, a weekly, bi-seasonal fundraising event for charities in Cheyenne. The first fundraiser was held in February 2010 with the slogan “Party with a purpose, serving your community one charity at a time.”

He said, “since then, we have done 250 Thankful Thursdays. The first one was at The Redwood, that I had bought in 2009, and we raised $50 for The Red Cross. We didn’t know what we were doing, we thought it would run its course and fizzle out, but it just kept going. We have now raised just shy of 1.9 million dollars to date. We outgrew the Redwood and moved the event to the AMVETS for more seating. He also stated, “This community is so giving, people just come together. You go out and ask people if they would like to be a sponsor and the next thing you know you are getting a check from them, because they know that all the money is going straight back into the charity.” Thankful Thursdays features a live auction, food, drink and give-a-ways.

Thankful Thursday’s new season starts on September 5 at AMVETS located at 3839 E Lincolnway.

Alf’s Pub and Package is located at 1622 E 19th Street in Cheyenne.
