He suffers from Parkinson's disease

Michael J. Fox is still a name very much cemented with Hollywood thanks to his icon status gained from the ‘Back to the Future’ series. But for the past 30 years, he has been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, having been diagnosed during the filming of ‘Doc Hollywood’ in 1991. Parkinson’s is a long term motor condition which – amongst other things – affects an individual’s ability to walk, move and usually worsens over time. Michael was told in 1991 that he would only be able to work for a few more years at most and fell into a depressive battle with alcohol as a result. However, he manged almost another 30 years in the biz and only retired last year. He also established the Michael J. Fox foundation in 2000, a charity dedicated to finding a cure for the disease. It has gone on to raise more than $1 billion for the cause.
