New homes are springing from the plains of Cheyenne at a fast clip. Yesterday, a groundbreaking happened for a 45-unit apartment complex at the Pointe, called the Commons.
“We’re trying to create a close-knit kind of community there and offer something more for everybody that’s living there,” said Sydney Huckfeldt, an office manager for Homes by Guardian.
The building will be four stories and L-shaped, with underground parking and 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments. The fourth floor will be condos.
“It’s luxury and we’re excited about the amenities: a fitness center, a business center and party rooms for entertaining,” said Ross Malinski, Guardian Companies president.
The Commons follows the construction of the Pointe Lofts, a 24-unit building that Malinski says could be fully leased by April. Another building, the Pointe Plaza, is in the planning stages.
Guardian Companies also is building housing at Whitney Ranch, near the intersection of Whitney Road and Dell Range Blvd on the east side of Cheyenne. The development will eventually cover 580 acres, and include 87 single-family lots, 24 twin home lots, plus a commercial lot.
“We anticipate growth in that area,” Malinski said.
Westedt Meadows, off Highway 30 and Westedt Road east of town, is being built on 5-acre lots.
Guardian Companies began working on developments here close to 20 years ago. Malinski said the company did a lot of research and decided Cheyenne was the right place to build.
“We felt like Cheyenne didn’t have the bust or the boom. It’s steady. We felt like it’s a great economy even through tough times, and its proven that over almost the last 20 years now,” Malinski said.
The Pointe was designed to be an upscale neighborhood with walking paths, open spaces, a homeowners association and more. The new apartment buildings will be part of that.
“We feel like there’s a lot of multifamily in town, but when it comes to luxury, this is the goal of Pointe Lofts, Pointe Commons and soon to be Pointe Plaza down the road,” Malinski said.
