Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra

A recent performance of the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra.

The strains of classical music and popular music soon will again be heard in downtown Cheyenne.

With the approval of state and local health authorities, Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra recently announced its 2020-21 season of live performances. CSO wants the public to know the orchestra has instituted careful health and safety measures to prevent spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The lineup for this season includes many familiar tunes, and features soloists including CSO harpist Tonya Jilling, the Helios Piano Trio, CSO Clarinetist Kellan Toohey and Anton Rist (Principal Clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), and British pianist Michael Roll. Audience favorites such as Adagio for Strings, Beethoven’s “Emperor” Piano Concerto, Fanfare for the Common Man, Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Mozart Symphony No. 40, Mother Goose Suite, and the William Tell Overture will once again be performed for local music lovers.

A holiday concert featuring the orchestra, a narrator, and a trumpet soloist is set for this season, as are two Hausmusik performances. And the long-anticipated Raiders of the Lost Ark Live in Concert will delight concert-goers.

This season, unlike any others before, will include special accommodations such as shorter concerts without an intermission, and socially distanced seating and masks required. Saturday matinee performances have been added in addition to the Saturday evening concerts, to enable more people to attend, despite the strict socially-distanced seating in the Cheyenne Civic Center.

The musicians will be socially distanced on stage, too, but nonetheless will include a full orchestra. The season has been re-programmed to use a somewhat smaller orchestra and shorter repertoires, due to the pandemic. Livestreaming packages will be available that include all Saturday evening concerts.

The Classic Conversations educational seminar which precedes each concert will now be livestreamed on the CSO Facebook page on the Friday prior to the concert at noon and made available on CSO’s website for remote viewing. Season ticket renewals begin Aug. 17.

The season lineup of events includes Stunning Strings, on Oct. 12, and Witty Wind & Boisterous Brass, on Nov. 14. Holiday Magic will entertain folks on Dec. 12, Riveting Rhapsodies performs on Jan. 23; and the Capricious Classics concert is Feb. 27. Fantastic Finales is Apr. 12; and Hausmusik 1 and Hausmusik 2 happen Apr. 18 and May 16, respectively. The Raiders Of The Lost Ark concert is set for June 12.
